Did you know that we offer ceramic braces made of a clear, crystal material? We do! Our clear ceramic braces work just like traditional metal braces, except that you can hardly tell that you are wearing them. Each smooth bracket is made of a translucent material to seamlessly blend in with your natural teeth. If you would like to learn more about ceramic braces and how you could benefit from this orthodontic treatment, please call and schedule a consultation today.
About the Procedure
When it comes to clear braces, we offer this orthodontic treatment to children and adults based on their correction needs and aesthetic goals. Time in braces can range from 1 – 2 years, but will ultimately depend on the severity of the case. Once the braces are placed on the teeth, the patient will have to return about every 6 weeks for an adjustment until the treatment is completed.
What to Expect
Each patient will require their own personalized treatment plan. Our orthodontic assistant will cleanse and air dry the teeth before the braces application begins. Then, we will put on a bonding agent on each tooth and Dr. Bietsch will position each bracket to the precise location needed for each tooth. A light then cures the glue attaching the bracket to the tooth and a precisely cut wire is placed in the braces. The fun part is now picking the colors of the rubber bands that will be placed to hold the wire into the braces. The process of putting the braces on is a fast, painless process.
Once the braces are placed, soreness from the teeth not being moved before is normal for approximately the first week. Everyone is a little different and some patients only feel discomfort only for the first couple of days. Taking ibuprofen as indicated usually is best to offset the soreness. We will also give you a list of foods that are good to eat with braces and those that can give your braces problems. Although not everything is on the list of foods to avoid, a general rule is to avoid anything that is hard, sticky or chewy.
Brushing after every meal will ensure that food debris is not sitting on the teeth throughout the day (or on the braces), which will promote tooth decay and gum disease. Flossing is imperative on a daily basis to keep the gums and teeth healthy throughout treatment. Keeping all your orthodontic appointments, plus regular dental cleanings and check-ups with your dentist is also key in the health of your smile.
After your orthodontic treatment is completed, we will remove the braces from your teeth and fit you for a retainer. Dr. Bietsch will discuss the best retainer option for you as a retainer will help keep your teeth in their new position.
